High School Band

Welcome to the Kearney High School Band!

As the school year starts, we are faced with the challenge of maintaining the standard of excellence in the KHS band. The pride, spirit, enthusiasm and musicianship each of us displays will be the foundation for a successful year. Both our athletic fans and our concert attendees expect a high standard of musical performance and entertainment. Each of us must strive to achieve these goals.

This handbook contains many hours of hard work and planning. It covers the basics of the band program. All decisions and procedures necessary for a quality program cannot be covered in the following pages. If a situation should arise that is not covered in this handbook, the director will make a decision accordingly. This handbook is designed to help you become oriented to the band policies. Study it carefully and keep it as a permanent reference.

It is impossible to have a successful band program without definite rules, regulations and guidelines for every member of the group to know and follow. It is hoped that each member will have a musically rewarding experience while becoming a disciplined and responsible member of the band, after all it is your band! I will not ask you to do anything that I have not done or am not willing to do. Our goal is to be the best band possible and this can only be achieved through teamwork. The right to proclaim this year's band as a successful part of the tradition of excellence depends upon what we do as a team in the year ahead. The challenge is ours, Let's do it!

Musically Yours,

Chris Heil
