Dogwood Elementary completed a PROJECT bringing awareness to the National Anthem and how to treat it with RESPECT.

What is it? An intense training session to aid in the preparation of the ACT Test.
Kearney Student Aaron Brown Selected for Summer Engineering Internship
A selected group of Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies (NCAPS) students were selected this past spring to spend the summer getting hands-on experience in the field through the programs internship opportunity. Kearney student, Aaron Brown was among this summers selected participants.
Exemplary School Bus Maintenance Award!
Congratulations to Durham School Services, serving KSD, for receiving the Exemplary School Bus Maintenance Award! This award was received for having 90% or more of the school buses pass the Missouri State Highway Patrol spring school bus inspection on the first inspection. This award also recognizes programs whose buses have met these criteria in five year increments.Read more

Kearney School District is the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Safe Sports School award for its athletics. The award champions safety and recognizes secondary schools that provide safe environments for student athletes. Kearney Kids Help Rename Gifted Program
At the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, the students in the elementary gifted program were challenged with creating a new nomenclature for their program. Beyond Basics facilitators felt revamping the name would add an energizing start to the school year and give students the opportunity for creative thought. Students worked together to find a more modern name for their program. In May, several options were presented to Jacque Banks, Assistant Superintendent. Bike Safety is a BLAST at Hawthorne Elementary
Children riding bicycles is a sure sign summer is just around the corner. Educating children about safe riding skills can help prepare them for their ride and help prevent injuries. Recently, 5th grade students in Nancy Mabrey's physical education classes at Hawthorne Elementary were provided the opportunity to go through the Bicycle Lesson and Safety Training (BLAST) program.
Teacher Innovation Grant Award Winners
The Kearney School District Education Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Teacher Innovation Grants. These grants are awarded to support programs, events, or activities that serve to "Enrich the Educational Experience" of students.
Raising Awareness to Osteogenesis Inperfecta
Dogwood Elementary's MiHaley Schlegel was featured on Fox 4 due to her efforts to raise awareness to Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) also known as Brittle Bone Disease. MiHaley' work to spread the word about the disease led to the creation of an event called Paint the Park Yellow. This event will be held May 10 at Lion's Park in Kearney. Watch MiHaley's story!
Kearney Receives Honors at Excellence in Education Banquet
The Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce held the 2014 Excellence in Education Banquet at the KCI Expo Center on Wednesday, April 23. Among the hundreds of attendees was a proud contingency of Kearney R-I School District nominees and supporters.

After having the first 2 attempts at live auditions cancelled due to "Old Man Winter", we had 26 kids spend the first day of break recording their All-State Band auditions so that they could be mailed in. Those results were posted yesterday and Kearney received 7 All-State Honors. Congrats to the following list of honorees:
KEF Contributes to NHS Fundraising Efforts
The KHS National Honors Society (NHS) was elected as the President School for the 2014 NHS Convention. The upcoming convention will be held at Tan-Tar-A / Lake of the Ozarks March 4th and 5th 2014. The KHS members have been working for a little less than a year to raise approximately $10,000 for this event and have the honor to represent the more than 500 NHS. The group has currently raised approximately $8000.Read Here
Kearney High School has received the No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Award.
The program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.
This is such an honor for KHS to be recognized by the US Department of Education.
