Parents as Teachers (Birth to Age 3)

In their first few years, children learn more and faster than at any other time in their lives.

Kearney R1 School District Parents as Teachers now has a Facebook. Please contact your PAT educator for more information

Through Parents as Teachers, parents learn the skills to help make the most out of the those important early-learning years, encouraging language development, intellectual growth, social and motor skills, and strengthening the parent-child relationship. PAT offers assistance to families in their role as a child's first teacher. Enrollment is open to anyone who has children from birth through two and a half years of age who resides within the Kearney R-1 School District.

The program offers a variety of support and information services at no cost to families. Information is available in the areas of cognitive, language and fine/gross motor development during personalized home visits and group meetings. Periodic health screenings to test hearing and vision are also offered.

If a child appears to have significant developmental delays, PAT refers parents to First Steps, Missouri's Infant/Toddler Early Intervention Program. PAT also provides screenings for three- to five-year-old children to determine if a referral to The Acorn Patch (Early Childhood Special Education) is needed.
